Development
Starting point
The idea was to create a bedside lamp using recycled wood, including bent beech veneer and solid oak.
During the process, I was inspired by Georgian khinkali dumplings, although to some, it resembles a bonfire or an onion.
Process
I created the lampshade by gluing thin strips of veneer into a circle with a diameter of 120 mm and then connected it to a small wooden cylinder with another 18 strips of veneer, each approximately 180 mm long. The number of strips was determined by the diameter of the wooden cylinder. Initially, the
inner strips were supposed to form a spiral, but after testing this option, I decided to simplify the design.
The solid oak base was done with a band saw and files, due to the temporary lathe malfunction. Circles securing the holder were attached with screws on both sides of the bulb holder slot, so that the holder can be swapped in case of failure or if the cable needs to be replaced.
The lampshade is placed on the base thanks to a suitably milled edge.
