The Anthropocene Elementary
The Anthropocene is the name of our modern geological era, proposed in 2000 by two eminent scientists – American biologist E.F. Stoermer and Dutch atmospheric chemist and meteorologist, P.J. Crutzen. The beginning of the Anthropocene coincides with the industrial revolutions, when human activity became the dominant force influencing the environment on a global scale. The effects of these activities are visible and tangible. At the same time, there is a growing awareness that they determine the future of our planet and subsequent generations. This involves the development of terminology to describe new phenomena, often not yet understood and not available to a wider and inaccessible to a wider audience.
The icons were created in the Visual Communication Design Studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The set consists of graphic representation of concepts related to the Anthropocene, both negative and positive. Each student developed two icons for the Elementary.

Fossilization
a fossil is any preserved remains, impression, or trace of any once-living thing, that appears due to fossilization processes in the deceased organism. Examples include the bones and teeth or the chitinous or calcareous exoskeletons. Fossils may also consist of the marks left behind by the organism while it was alive.

Meteor explosion
when a meteoroid enters Earth’s atmosphere at a speed typically in excess of 20 km/s aerodynamic heating of that object produces a streak of light, both from the glowing object and the trail of glowing particles that it leaves in its wake. This phenomenon is called a meteor. If that object withstands ablation from its passage through the atmosphere as a meteor and impacts with the ground, it is then called a meteorite.
